Cannabidiol, or CBD, is one of the most popular products in the health and beauty industry. People from all walks of life praise CBD’s ability to boost well-being, restore balance, and promote a sense of calm. With all these incredible health benefits, there’s a lot to know about CBD.

The Botany Behind CBD

Botanically, cannabis is a genus (a group of species) that contains three species of plants: Cannabis sativa, cannabis indica, and cannabis ruderalis. Within each of these plant species are many strains and sub-types; each of these strains has a different balance of phytocannabinoids.

Phytocannabinoids are naturally occurring chemical compounds that abound in all species of the cannabis genus. Different species and strains of species naturally produce unique balances of phytocannabinoids.

The phytocannabinoid most prevalent in the female flowering cannabis plant is tetrahydrocannabinol or THC. This is the psychoactive compound that induces a “high.” CBD is the phytocannabinoid most prevalent in the male hemp plant.

Hemp plants contain less than 0.3% THC and high concentrations of CBD, which means you will not get high from using CBD. Because there is no regulation on the market, drying processes, measuring methods, and different strains of hemp may result in hemp-derived CBD with higher concentrations of THC.

At Kats Botanicals, our products undergo rigorous third-party lab testing to ensure our CBD products contain less than 0.3% THC.

What Is CBD?

CBD is one of the most potent phytocannabinoids present in the genus of cannabis plants. Both THC and CBD have binding properties with the endocannabinoid system, or ECS, which regulates vital bodily functions such as sleep, stress response, mood, and hormones.

Among its many receptor systems, the ECS has CB1 and CB2 receptors, and CBD is believed to bind primarily with the CB2 receptors. The CB2 receptors target the digestive system, the nervous system, and the immune system. This is why CBD has so many different applications for wellness. From everyday stress management to skin health, it can help your endocannabinoid system rebalance your body.

Not A Fad

CBD isn’t just a passing health fad. A burgeoning body of scientific research supports what botanists have long suspected. CBD is a powerful phytocannabinoid that can change lives for the better and support all kinds of people along their individual journeys to improved well-being.
