The Kratom community should be in a tizzy because of the FDA’s proposed Kratom ban to the DEA.
I cannot figure out how, in 2016, 100,000 people signed a petition in one week when the FDA proposed a Kratom ban in the past, and this year, we can barely get 40k people to sign something in a month.
Where did everyone go?
If you’re like me, doing everything you can to stop this Kratom ban from happening, you can sometimes feel like you’re all alone in this fight. This article is going to share some easy ways on how you can do your part, become one with the community, and stop this ban on Kratom.
#1 – Know Who You’re Fighting Against In the Kratom Ban
According to the FDA, our hands are tied when it comes to talking about Kratom effects (as we have written in a past article). But it’s important to know that during this fight you are up against more than just a couple of government factions.
You are fighting against large corporations who have money, power, and influence within the walls of Washington and our representatives. I am not alluding to the fact that these companies are influencing the decision making processes against Kratom, however, I will challenge you to look at the facts and the timeline, starting at the beginning of 2018.
On February 6th, 2018, Scott Gottlieb and the FDA began their campaign of slander against Kratom. Their fear-mongering, adulterated facts began to spread, creating doubt and disarray amongst the good (yet ignorant) people who had never heard of Kratom powder before.
On February 16, 2018, Alexander Kariman filed for patent 15/898,232 (United States Patent Application 20180169172) which states their intentions for filing this patent on active alkaloids in mitragynine speciosa.
Who is Alexander Kariman? That’s a good question! My research cannot bring anything up about this mysterious man except for a lone LinkedIn profile which connects him to a company called SECROM, a VoIP telephone security service.
However, past patent filings could suggest this is the right person as they share information about the technological and network-accessible field SECROM provides services to.
Alexander Kariman listed this patent as an invention, and in this patent invention summary, this statement was made:
The disclosed invention generally relates to pharmaceutical and nutraceutical compounds and methods for reducing appetite, muscle fatigue, and pain…The aforesaid compound and method in some subjects may reduce acute pain associated with cancer, and in another embodiment, with a medical procedure. The proposed invention provides methods and compounds for treatment of multiple diseases and disorders at various stages, and different patients potentially presenting different symptoms, and as such may require larger or smaller doses to achieve the desired efficacy.
How odd that Alexander Kariman’s patent filing and the FDA’s announcement came so close together.
The timeline of these two occurrences should scare you to death.
If you are a consistent Kratom user, you should be wary that the FDA is closely monitoring respectable vendors’ language and other aspects of their business. They would love nothing more than to have a reason to shut everything down.
Scott Gottlieb is famously known for saying Kratom was the cause of many deaths and that Kratom is a dangerous substance.
However, the language in this patent sings a different tune. Basically, the patent filer is on the same page as the Kratom community. It looks like these two factions already understand what Kratom can do, but their campaign to demonize Kratom to the rest of the country and to the DEA is something they must do before they can get what they want.
Ask yourself, what does the FDA and corporations like Alexander Kariman (we should be clearer with who Kariman is. Who is he and what corp? Maybe up top where you first mentioned his name, then the sentence in the last paragraph will be cleared up) have to gain with the Kratom ban?
#2 – Know Who You’re Fighting With In the Kratom Ban
While you may feel like you’re all alone in this fight, there are others out there who have your heart and your drive to keep Kratom alive.
It’s important to know who’s on your team when it comes to this fight so you can communicate with them, or have an outlet in which they can communicate with you.
In a Rolling Stone article I read the other day, Jane Babin rakes the FDA over the coals and calls their scientific interpretation on the facts of Kratom “junk science”.
In fact, the FDA’s research and “evidence” about the dangers of Kratom are off on almost every instance.
One company that is standing by your side in this fight, is the American Kratom Association. They explain how the FDA fails to follow the science on Kratom by sharing some outrageous facts. If you read the entire white paper, you can clearly see the FDA does have an underlying agenda.
Sure they do.
Remember, we have those dates I mentioned above. This is no accident that these two occurrences happened so closely together.
The AKA has shared the facts that the FDA got wrong. Do not forget the list of criteria the DEA must have before making a substance Schedule I. One of the ways they classify a substance is through an 8-factor analysis test.
This brings me to another person who is on our side, and that is Dr. Jack Henningfield. Dr. Henningfield conducted his own 8-factor analysis test on Kratom. He discovered that Kratom, when used responsibly, is no more addictive than a cup of coffee.
This is the science the FDA should be following, but aren’t. These facts are right in front of their faces. Plus, they have the authority and resources to pull off a legitimate study of Kratom, yet Scott Gottlieb is seen on Twitter saying this about Kratom:
Deaths and adverse events from the opioid Kratom are on the rise – Aug 16, The Philadelphia Inquirer. Consumers should take measure of these risks. Safe, effective treatments are available for those suffering from addiction https://t.co/nWtqDD4T7S
— Scott Gottlieb, M.D. (@SGottliebFDA) August 18, 2018
Seeing a tweet like this can absolutely take the air right out of you. It is disheartening to know that there are people in this world who want to take something away from you. Something that has been helping you.
Scott Gottlieb is definitely not fighting for the Kratom cause.. However, companies, like the Botanical Education Alliance, are great for furthering your education on Kratom and broadening your understanding to the benefits.
Also, Dr. Christopher McCurdy is a great resource for facts and knowledge about Kratom, as he has studied Kratom for 15 years and is known for his traditional wellness ideals.
