Deep within the Selimbau District of the island of Borneo, a handful of large, freshwater lakes dot the landscape. This sprawling wetland is fed by saltwater rivers flowing inland from the North Java Sea, and it’s here where the Dark Red Malay Kratom strain is harvested. This lush environment offers the ideal tropical climate that nourishes these native Kratom trees, producing broad, thick leaves with more than 40 natural plant alkaloids.
To produce the iconic Dark Red Malay strain, the harvested Kratom leaves are pruned, prepped, and then fermented indoors in a controlled environment. The finishing touch is an hour of outside drying, a step that ‘locks in’ the precise alkaloid content for which this strain is known. Pronounced effects may include a sense of calm and optimism.
